Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, hands-on technique that stimulates the lymphatic system to increase the pumping rate of the lymphatic vessels. This can help decrease swelling by promoting the removal of excess fluid and waste from the tissues. MLD is performed by a skilled therapist trained in specific movements that encourage lymph flow throughout the body. This specialized technique is an effective component of a comprehensive treatment program for managing edema and promoting overall limb health.

Compression bandaging for edema management is crucial in reducing swelling and maintaining limb size. It involves using a multi-layer bandage to achieve gradient compression by using padding, foams, liners, and short stretch bandages. These bandages are custom-tailored to meet each patient's specific needs. During the treatment phase, compression bandages should be worn 24 hours a day to maximize reduction in swelling. These bandages are semi-rigid, allowing for movement and therapeutic exercise to improve the muscle joint pump for fluid evacuation.
